OOM - The Graveyard

[Continued from here]

When Pam arrived at Bill Compton's mansion where everyone had convened, she almost ran straight up to Eric -- but didn't. Sookie was by his side. So Pam merely hung back and nodded at him, her steely-eyed look softened for just a moment.

At least now Pam didn't have to hide her face from him or anyone. Even Bill seemed surprised at how well she'd recovered, but he knew that the spell still hadn't been broken.

This was the goal tonight, to get Marnie to break the spells on Pam and Eric. And if she wouldn't? Well, that was what Bill's armed guards were for.

At midnight, with the air thick with chirping crickets, Bill led the group to the graveyard that sprawled between his mansion and Sookie's house. Sookie and the rest of the vampires remained in the shadows and watched as Bill made his way along the lamp-lit pathway. The guards brought up the very rear and stayed out of sight.

Bill slowed to a stop. "Lady Antonia?" he called.

"I am no lady," came a Spanish-accented voice from the dimness. Bill turned around. Marnie emerged from between the gravestones. She was neither one or the other now--she was both Marnie and Antonia. "I am peasant, and proud of it."

Bill held his hands out. "I come in peace."

"Do you?" the witch scoffed. "I know you are not alone."

He turned a little and signaled for Eric, Sookie, and Pam to come forward, and they did.

It was the first time in a while that Pam laid eyes on that bitch Marnie or Antonia or whoever the fuck she was. And it got her blood up. And she was ready to kill if Bill's negotiations went south.

"Nor are you," Bill countered.

Martonia swept her arms upward, magically revealing the members of her coven surrounding her, equipped with silver chains and crucifixes, and guns with wooden bullets. They even included regulars from Merlotte's, like Holly, Beverleen, and...

"Tara?" Sookie breathed out in surprise.

Yes, even Tara.

Pam couldn't wait to sink her teeth into her.

"A sad testament to our inability to trust each other," said Bill diplomatically. "But I still believe that we can achieve a peaceful resolution."

Martonia took a few steps forward, her arms defiantly crossed. "Describe this peaceful resolution to me," she spat.

"We will never harm you again," Bill replied, keeping his cool. "Anyone who has done so has been commanded to desist, or they will face the True Death. In return, I only ask that you remove the spells from my two subjects here."

Eric glanced at Pam. But Pam stared straight ahead. At Tara. At fucking Martonia.

"You say you are willing to execute those who have harmed me," said Martonia, her tone dry and skeptical, "but you bring them to me, and you ask me to remove spells I placed on them in self-defense. All for a promise that I'll never be harmed again."

In a nutshell. "Yes," said Bill.

Martonia subtly shifted her gaze from him to Eric. And she held his eyes. Eric couldn't look away, but it was more than that...

(You're also a warrior, Sookie had told him, and you don't run from a fight.)

"I have your word for this?" Martonia asked, seemingly amused by this whole proposition. Mocking them.

Bill replied, "I swear it--"

Suddenly Sookie spoke up, because even though Martonia was saying one thing with her mouth, she was saying something else entirely in her mind. As soon as Sookie telepathically heard the Latin incantations, she hissed, "Bill, she's casting a spell!"

Martonia stopped and glared at her. "Demoness!" she shouted, and with another wave of her arms, she revealed even more coven members that had been lurking there all along, all of them holding weapons.

It was Bill's turn. "Now!"

At his word, the other vampires, sheriffs and loyal subjects, appeared out of the shadows in a blur of speed. They stood at the ready, fangs bared.

"You may have dominion over us," said Bill, as a troop of human guards in black tactical gear surrounded them, "but you do not over the living. Surrender now and no one will be hurt."

About half a dozen red dots from the guards' high-powered rifles shined on Martonia's chest.

But she only laughed.

She laughed.

She was laughing.

Laughing .

He may be content with the life he had now.
He might have been a .monster before.

But she had taken what was his. Nd now she was laughing at them.
At him. At Pam. At Sookie.
At his King.

A pretty, blond women was standing opposite him, looking fiercely determined, her knuckles wrapped in silver chains.

She should have wrapped her neck.

For a minute, everything had hung in the balance, but now the scales were tipping.

He ran across the damp grass, too fast to see, arm outstretched.

And as the young woman crumbles, wirelessly, he returned to the rest of the group, holding up his bloody prize, smiling with bloodied fangs.

He'd torn out her throat.

Sookie is staring at his bloody face, transfixed.

Bill moves forward and grabs hold of a women - but it isn't Martinis so he pushes her away and tries to determine where she's gone to.

That damned for.

Eric on the other hand has caught a male witch. And killed him.
And is now feasting on him, tearing at his throat with growling enthusiasm.

In the distance, at Sookie's house, Alcide Hervouex realizes that she isn't in. And that the sounds coming from the cemetery spells trouble.

And in the for, Tara shoots and kills a vampire, almost throwing up as she is drenched with cold blood and slimy bits of flesh.

Bill helps Tara to her feet.
They both know where they stand.
And why.

A flash of bright, otherworldly light tears the for apart for a second, as Sookie's gift manifests, saving her from an over-eager with trying to kill her with a handful of silver jewellery.

And then a shot rings out and both Eric and Bill starts, saying her name in unison.

She's been hit.

Bill is stopped in his tracks by a silver crucifix slammed into his face and a silver chain getting wrapped around his neck but Eric runs to her, face dripping blood and gore.

And then he stops.

Martonia is standing in front of him.
He growls.

Martonia, by use of her concealment spells (and the fog), has managed to elude the vampires and the commandos, but that doesn't mean she's left the fight.

Oh, no.

She is determined to use the vampires against themselves -- starting with Eric.

The fog parts, and suddenly Eric is standing in front of her. His mouth bloody and twisted in a snarl. But she isn't afraid.

Both hands forming the sign of the horns, she points them at him, summoning her powers.

"We meet again."

He growls again, angry.
(And afraid).

Horns still pointed at Eric, and gaze locked with his, Martonia holds him in thrall as she casts a new spell on him.

"Es meus servus!" she hisses, her eyes aflame.

You are my slave!

Somewhere in the foggy night, the life is slowly bleeding out of Sookie.

Everything grows still.
He cannot hear Sookie anymore. Cannot feel her heartbeat inside of him.

He cannot see anything but the eyes. The eyes of the witch.

He retracts his fangs and sinks to his knees.

Martonia keeps him there on his knees, bending him to her will.

Stepping closer, she reaches out an open hand toward him, slow and cautious, though confident in her power over him.

She touches his blond hair. Strokes his head. Petting him like a tamed lion.

And she smiles, and chuckles to herself, because she has now acquired the greatest weapon in her battle against the vampires.

Amid the chaos and confusion, Alcide the werewolf gathers the wounded Sookie into his arms and carries her to safety.

Quiet.
Still.

Eric sighs and closes his eyes, leaning into the touch.

He will do as he is told.

Yes.
